This is the third contract order from the Royal Moroccan Navy for Piriou, following the orders for an LCT last year and the overhaul of OPV 64 "Rais Bargach" currently underway at the shipyard on Concarneau.

The BHO2M is a next-generation research vessel equipped with systems tailored to meet the raised standards of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). It is derived from the design of Multi-Missions Buildings (B2M) being built in Concarneau for the French Navy.

This agreement is the culmination of work from a cohesive team consisting of:
- PIRIOU, which ensures the overall design, studies and construction of the ship,
- SHOM (the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy) for the scientific part of the ship and the training of technicians of the Division Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography (DHOC) of the Royal Moroccan Navy,
- KERSHIP for its military systems expertise and project management of the contract.

The BHO2M is able to perform many operations at sea, mainly hydrographic and oceanographic ones, such as surveys, acquisition and processing of data, collecting scientific samples and associated analyzes. It is equipped with a gondola in which are placed acoustic bases of scientific equipment, including those of the two multibeam probes.

As the most acousticaly advanced ship of its generation, the BHO2M may also carry out its missions at high speed while moving in rough seas.

It may also meet the operational needs of the authorities involved in maritime surveillance, humanitarian assistance, the deployment of special forces or divers, rescue at sea and environment protection.

BHO2M features:
- An international standard construction
- The integration of the latest scientific equipment meeting IHO standards
- Superior endurance, seakeeping and high performance for long-duration offshore missions
- High level of modularity providing the ability to perform many specific tasks through:
o a large rear deck that can accommodate containers and other equipment,
o Dedicated handling equipment to accomodate and implement specialized equipment,
o Two VERTREP spots,
o dedicated facilities: Medical facility, diver support room, accomodation for scientists.

BHO2M main characteristics:

Overall length: 72 m
Width: 15 m
Draft: 5 m
Speed: 14 knots
Autonomy: 5000 Nautical miles at 10 knots
Endurance:/ 30 days
Hull / superstructure: Steel
