The JSC Admiralty Shipyard is one of the largest shipyards in Russia, located in Saint Petersburg. The shipyard's building ways can accommodate ships of up to 70,000 tonnes deadweight (DWT), 250 meters (820 ft) in length, and 35 meters (115 ft) in width. The shipyard produces naval warships as well as nuclear and diesel-powered submarines and large auxiliary ships.

Citing TASS, earlier, the Admiralty Shipyards (an affiliate of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) handed over to the Pacific Fleet two submarines of project 636.3. Another two are in different construction phases. By 2024, a total of six non-nuclear submarines of project 636.3 are to be built for the Pacific Fleet.

The project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class is an improved version of the Kilo-class diesel-electric powered submarine in service with the Russian Navy. This submarine features advanced stealth technology, extended combat range and the ability to strike land, surface and underwater targets.

In 2010, the Admiralty shipyard has signed a contract to build six Project 636.3 SSKs to the Russian Navy’s Pacific. The shipyard officially delivered the first Project 636.3 submarine to the Russian Navy in November 2019.

The Project 636.3 Kilo-class has a crew of 52 and an endurance of up to 45 days. She has an operational range of up to 12,000 kilometers and are armed with heavyweight torpedoes, anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles, and can also carry mines.

According to Russian Naval military sources, the Project 636.3 submarine is able to launch the Kalibr land-attack cruise missile as well as anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine missiles. The submarine is equipped with six 533 mm (21 inches) torpedo tubes and can carry a total of 18 torpedoes.
