Russian Navy's aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov out of dry dock.

According to information published by Tass on December 20, 2022, the Project 1143.5 heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will leave the dockside after repairs in the next few days, Alexei Rakhmanov, director-general of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, said.

Rakhmanov also said that the second half of the repair works had to be re-oriented because of an incident involving a PD-50 dock.

Previous reports said that the aircraft carrier had been placed in a modernized dry dock in the branch of “35 ship repair plant” of JSC Ship Repair Center “Zvezdochka” early in June.

The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier will get a totally new combat potential upon the renovation. It will serve the Navy for another 10-15 years.

About the Russian aircraft carrier

Admiral Kuznetsov is a heavy aircraft carrier cruiser, the largest warship of the Russian Navy, and the first aircraft carrier capable of carrying horizontal takeoff and landing planes.

Named after N.G. Kuznetsov. It was built in 1982-90 (launched on 6.12.1985) at Nikolaev Shipbuilding Yard under the project developed under the supervision of N. G. Kuznetsov.

In January. 1991 was included in the USSR Navy's Northern Fleet. The total displacement is 55 thousand tons. The total power of the power plants is 147 Mw (200 thousand hp).

Max cruising speed - 30 knots (55.6 km/h), economic - 18 knots (33.3 km/h). Navigational range - around 8,000 nautical miles. It is armed with the anti-ship missile system "Granit" (12 supersonic missiles with a range of about 550 km) and air defense missile system. It can carry approx. 50 planes and helicopters.

As of December 2022, Admiral Kuznetsov is out of service for a refit in Murmansk. In November 2018, it was damaged by a falling 70-ton crane from the floating dry dock PD-50 and a fire that killed two during the refit.
