Russian Project 19920 hydrographic boat Anatoly Knyazev begins state trials.

According to information published by Tass on November 9, 2022, the Project 19920 large hydrographic boat Anatoly Knyazev built by the Okskaya Shipyard for the Baltic Fleet has started to undergo state trials in the Baltic Sea, the fleet’s press office said.

After the trials are completed, the boat will be made operational with the Baltic Fleet’s hydrographic service, the press office added, without specifying when the state trials would be completed.

Project 19920 large hydrographic boats are multifunctional vessels with a wide range of capabilities. They are designed to conduct hydrographic survey of the seabed and water areas and service coastal facilities of the Navy’s navigation and hydrographic support system. The Project 19920 boat was developed by the Nizhny Novgorod-based Vympel Design Bureau.

Vessels of the type are designed to pilot submarines, service and repair coastal and floating navigation equipment, carry out hydrographic survey, transport research teams, and special equipment over a distance of up to 1,000 miles.

The boat is named after Anatoly Knyazev, the organizer and participant of the Arctic tests of the first high-latitude navigation system during a nuclear-powered submarine’s voyage to the North Pole in 1963.

The Anatoly Knyazev large hydrographic boat has an overall length of 36.44 m, a beam of 7.8 m, and a depth of 3.6 m. She has a displacement of 320t and can carry a crew of up to 11 personnel.

The hydrographic boat is powered by two DEUTZ BF6M1015MC diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 11.5 knots with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 miles at a speed of 11 knots. She has an endurance of up to 10 days.
