Russia Navy's frigate Admiral Gorshkov arrived in South Africa for exercise with China.

According to a tweet published by the Russian MFA on February 14, 2023, Cape Town hosts the Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov. The battleship arrived in the Mother City on its way to Durban where it will take part in joint naval drills scheduled for February 17-27.

The Admiral Gorshkov class frigates, also known as Project 22350, are the newest class of frigates being built by the Severnaya Verf shipyard in Saint Petersburg for the Russian Navy.

Admiral Gorshkov is a guided missile frigate with a displacement of 4,550 tons in standard condition and 5,400 tons at full load. She is 135 meters (442 feet 11 inches) long and has a beam of 16 meters (52 feet 6 inches).

The frigate has a draught of 4.5 meters (14 feet 9 inches) and is powered by a CODAG propulsion system with two 10D49 cruise diesel engines and two M90FR boost gas turbines, generating a total of 65,400 shp (48,800 kW) and allowing the ship to achieve a top speed of 29.5 knots (54.6 km/h; 33.9 mph).

She has a range of 4,850 nautical miles (8,980 km; 5,580 mi) at 14 knots (26 km/h; 16 mph) and an endurance of 30 days. The frigate has a crew of 210 personnel.

Admiral Gorshkov is equipped with several sensors and processing systems, including air search radars such as the 5P-27 Furke-4 main radar and the 5P-20K "Poliment" active phased array search, tracking, and guidance radar.

She also has a surface search radar, the 34K1 "Monolit," an artillery fire control radar, the 5P-10 Puma, and a sonar system, the Zarya-M, and Vinyetka towed array sonar. The ship is also equipped with two target illuminators, aft superstructure for Palash CIWS, and the Vigstar Centaurus-NM communication system.

The Admiral Gorshkov class frigate's electronic warfare and decoys capabilities include the Prosvet-M EW Suite, as well as the KT-308 and KT-216 countermeasure systems, and the 5P-42 Filin system.

The ship's armament includes a 130 mm Amethyst/Arsenal A-192M naval gun, 16 (2 x 8) 3S14 VLS cells for Kalibr, Oniks, Zircon anti-ship cruise missiles or Otvet anti-submarine missiles, 32 (4 x 8) 3S14M VLS cells for Kalibr, Oniks, Zircon, or Otvet anti-submarine missiles (upgraded Project 22350), and 32 (4 x 8) Redut VLS cells for 9M96, 9M96M, 9M96D/9M96DM(M2) and/or quad-packed 9M100 surface-to-air missiles (Project 22350M).

The frigate also has two Palash CIWS, each with twin Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-6-30 6 barrel 30 mm rotary cannons, two 4 330 mm torpedo tubes for Paket-NK anti-torpedo/anti-submarine torpedoes, and two 14.5 mm MTPU pedestal machine guns. She can carry one Ka-27 series helicopter and has a helipad and hangar for the same.
