Republic of Singapore hosts ASEAN India naval exercise.

According to information published by the Singapore Mindef on May 2, 2023, the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Indian Navy (IN) are co-hosting the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME).

The exercise involves 9 ships, 6 aircraft, and over 1,800 personnel from ASEAN Member States and India. The RSN is participating with its Formidable-class frigate RSS Supreme.

Singapore is co-hosting the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise in its capacity as the country coordinator for ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations from 2021 to 2024.

This exercise allows navies of ASEAN Member States and India to strengthen collaboration, enhance understanding, and build confidence to address common maritime security challenges at sea.

About the RSS Supreme

The Formidable-class frigate has a displacement of 3,200 tonnes and measures 114.8 meters in length, 16.3 meters in beam, and 6.0 meters in draught. She is powered by four MTU 20V 8000 M90 engines, each rated at 8,200 kW, with a total output of 32,800 kW.

The frigate has a maximum speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots, with a range of 4,200 nautical miles. She has a complement of 71 personnel, excluding an air crew detachment of approximately 19.

The ship is equipped with a Thales Herakles multi-function radar, a Terma Electronic Scanter 2001 navigation radar, and an EDO Model 980 active low-frequency towed sonar.

Her armament includes eight RGM-84C Harpoon SSM anti-ship missiles, MBDA Aster 15/30 anti-air missiles launched from a DCNS Sylver A50 32-cell VLS, and EuroTorp A244/S Mod 3 torpedoes launched from two B515 triple tubes with reloads.

The frigate also has an Oto Melara 76mm Super Rapid gun, four STK 50MG 12.7 mm HMGs, and carries one S-70B Seahawk naval helicopter in its enclosed hangar and on its flight deck.
