As part of the agreement, Heinen & Hopman will oversee the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) filtration systems for the four frigates set to serve the Dutch and Belgian navies.

Primarily focused on anti-submarine operations, the upcoming frigates will be engineered for stealth, minimizing their detectability by enemy submarines. Joep Hopman, CEO at Heinen & Hopman, expressed his elation at being Damen Naval's chosen HVAC provider for these frigates, highlighting their expertise in crafting ultra-silent HVAC-R systems.

Their past collaborations have proven successful, with projects like the Joint Support Ship HNLMS Karel Doorman and the Combat Support Ship Den Helder among their shared achievements.

Michel Veltman, Sales Manager at Heinen & Hopman, spoke about their shared commitment to the Dutch supply base and their intention to integrate numerous local suppliers into the project.

Replacing the ageing Karel Doorman-class multipurpose frigates, the new ASW frigates are seen as a modern upgrade to the fleet, with the first frigate anticipated for delivery in 2028.
