Russian Navy frigate Admiral Golovko arrives at its home port of Severomorsk.

According to information published by Murman on January 16, 2024, the Russian Northern Fleet's new Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate Admiral Golovko, has arrived at its permanent base in Severomorsk.

With the raising of its flag, the frigate has commenced operations according to fleet plans and is being rapidly integrated into the forces on permanent readiness. Admiral Golovko is the first Project 22350 frigate to be equipped with a main power unit entirely made in Russia, consisting of two diesel-gas turbine units 55R.

Five more frigates of this class are currently under construction at the Northern Shipyard. Father Alexander, rector of the Holy Andrew's Naval Cathedral, blessed the warship and its crew, sprinkling the sailors with holy water.

This third frigate in the series boasts greater capabilities than its predecessors, featuring a striking missile system and a powerful anti-aircraft missile system "Poliment-Redut," based on the land-based S-350 "Vityaz."

She can target both aerial and maritime threats simultaneously and is armed with missiles including the 9M96 with a range of up to 50 km, 9M962-1 up to 150 km, and the short-range 9M100 capable of intercepting targets within 10 km.

Technical data

The frigate Admiral Golovko has a standard displacement of 4,500 tons and a full displacement of 5,400 tons. Its length measures 135.0 meters, with a breadth of 16.4 meters and a height of 8.0 meters from the side. The draft of the ship is 4.53 meters.

For speed, it can travel at 14 knots for economic cruising and has a maximum speed of 29.5 knots. The frigate has a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 14 knots and can sustain autonomous operations for up to 30 days. It is designed to accommodate a crew of between 186 to 210 personnel.
