Euronaval 2016: Lacroix was showcasing its entire range of Naval Self Protection Solutions

During Euronaval 2016, the largest naval defense exhibition in the world held last week near Paris, French company Lacroix was showcasing its range of decoy launching systems as well as its anti-missile and anti-torpedo capabilities.

The following products were on display at the show:

- SYLENA LW: compact system to protect patrollers and OPVs against missiles,
- SYLENA MK1 and MK2: systems designed to protect corvettes and frigates against missiles (MK1) or against missiles and torpedoes (dual system MK2),
- SEACLAD: a range of decoy munitions to counter the latest missiles and torpedoes,
- Anti-missile protection solutions for all surface ship categories,
- Signalling devices, both distress and location, deployed from aircraft, submarines or individually.

The company was also showcasing a "mini CIC" to demonstrate its "detection / reaction suite" and the capabilities of the SYLENA system.

The SYLENA MK2 decoy launching system was present aboard the two scale models unveiled on Tuesday (which were some of the main highlight of the show): The FTI mid-size frigate model at the French MoD stand and the Belh@rra digital frigate on DCNS stand, right across from Lacroix.

SYLENA MK2 is a multiple decoy launcher design to deploy three types of ammunitions: SEALEM, SEALIR and CANTO.

SEALEM is a corner reflector Radio-Frequency (RF) decoy: It is design to match the ship's RF signature to challenge advanced missile's CCM. It is able to defeat generic and emerging threats as well as multi-missile salvoes.

SEALIR is a morphologic Infra Red (IR) spectral decoy: It is design to match the ship's IR signature. It is capable of defeating the full range of traditional and modern IR seekers as well as the latest generation of imaging IR seekers.

CANTO is an all in one broadband active acoustic emitter acting both as a jammer for dilution effect and as a false target generator for confusion effect. The extremely confused tactical picture forces the attacking torpedo(es) to waste time and energy finding the real target.

Navy Recognition learned recently during DIMDEX 2016 that the Egyptian Navy became the first customer of the SYLENA MK2, when it selected the system for its future Gowind corvettes.

Another variant is available: the SYLENA MK2 IN: The launcher is then integrated into the structure of the ship and the top of the launcher is flush with the deck to maximise stealth.
