MSI Defence Systems Latest and Lightest Weapon Station: The Seahawk MWS

During IDEX-NAVDEX, held from 19th to 23rd February in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, British company MSI Defence Systems Ltd was showcasing the latest addition to its remote weapon systems (RWS) range: The Seahawk Multi Weapon Station (MWS). It was specifically design by MSI Defence to be the most compact lightweight remote controlled naval gun system available. The MWS is ideal for small fast boats covering a range of operational missions from maritime interdiction to law enforcement patrols.

Talking to Navy Recognition during IDEX 2017, an MSI Defence representative explained that the Seahawk MWS was launched at Euronaval 2016. It is canon agnostic, designed for M2 (12.7mm) - 7.62mm and 40mm grenade launcher. The whole system weight is 200-250Kg. "We received a tremendous amount of interest since the launch at Euronaval" the representative added. Unlike other RWS manufacturers who usually navalize a system originally designed for land application, MSI Defence designs systems for naval applications exclusively.

The modular design of the Seahawk MWS enables a variety of external deployable mounting options for fast boat designers. The compact size and single arm construction uses the minimum amount of deck space and keeps lines of sight clear for the crew and gunner.

MSI Defence's design approach of precision engagement and efficient usage of ammunition throughout the Seahawk range of gun systems is equally important for the MWS system. Advanced FEA analysis for structural stiffness and the latest high torque zero backlash drive system ensures low dispersion of shots fired. The MWS also features MSI's proven stabilization and fire control system. The outcome, according to MSI, is that Seahawk MWS stays on target during dynamic manoeuvring and when underway at speed in a range of sea states.
