Vietnamese Gepard class frigate Ly Thai To visits Indonesia.

According to information published by Vietnam + on August 30, 2022, the Gepard class frigate Ly Thai To of Brigade 162 of the Naval Region 4 arrived in Batu Ampar port of Indonesia, beginning its visit, exchange, and joint drill with the Indonesian Navy.

To reach the destination, the Vietnamese delegation, headed by Colonel Nguyen Van Ngan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Naval Region 4, had crossed nearly 750 nautical miles in more than three days.

During the voyage, it conducted a long-distance seafaring training, and practiced command training, combat readiness coordination, and weapon and technical equipment mastery.

Lý Thái Tổ (HQ-012) is a Gepard-class frigate (Gepard 3.9 type) in the Vietnam People's Navy. She was built by the Zelenodolsk shipyard in Russia under a signed contract with the Vietnamese Navy.

Lý Thái Tổ is designed to perform searches, track and destroy floating target ships, air defense, anti-submarine (limited), escort, and patrol territorial waters and special areas with economic rights.

Lý Thái Tổ can enter combat independently or in squadrons, and is equipped with stealth technology, to present a minimum presence on enemy radar screens.

The Vietnamese frigate has a length of 102.14 m (335.1 ft), a beam of 13.09 m (42.9 ft), and a draught of 5.3 m (17 ft). She can reach a top speed of 28 knots (52 km/h; 32 mph).

She is armed with 8 SS-N-25 Switchblade Anti-Ship missiles (two quadruple launchers), Palma (Kashtan export variant) gun/missile system, 76.2 mm 59-caliber AK–176 automatic dual-purpose gun (500-round magazine), and two 6-barreled 30 mm AK-630 point-defense guns (2,000-round magazine for each).

The Guepard class frigate Ly Thai To has a standard displacement of 1,500 tons and can carry a complement of 98 sailors.
