The immersion has been carried out in the waters of the naval station of La Algameca, in front of the Navy Diving Center. It is part of the safety milestones of the construction and testing of the S-80 submarine program and is carried out after the surface navigation and prior to the immersion navigations.

The immersion has been carried out in different phases, in order to measure the drafts in the Navantia's armament dock before going out to the open sea.

The submarine carried out its dive in a location close to the 50-meter buoy located in front of the Navy's Diving Center in La Algameca. The tests on the S-81 submarine will continue until its delivery to the Navy.

About the submarine

Isaac Peral is a submarine with air-independent propulsion (AIP) and has a displacement of 3,200 tonnes (3,100 long tons) when surfaced and 3,426 tonnes (3,372 long tons) when submerged.

The vessel is 81.05 meters (265 feet 11 inches) in length, 11.68 meters (38 feet 4 inches) in beam, and has a draught of 7.3 meters (23 feet 11 inches). The vessel is powered by one shaft Etanol-AIP, three bio-ethanol engines (3 x 1,200 kW), one electric motor (3,500 kW), and one AIP fuel cell unit (300 kW), with Vulkan couplings RATO-S G-561W and 280 kN·m.

The vessel has a speed of 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph) when surfaced and 19 knots (35 km/h; 22 mph) when submerged, and a range of 8,000 kilometers (5,000 miles).

The vessel has an endurance of 30-55 days in immersion and a test depth of 460 meters (1,510 feet). The complement of the vessel is 32 crew members, with additional space for 8 troops.

The armament of the vessel includes 6 torpedo tubes (533 mm/21.0 inches) with DM2A4 torpedoes and Harpoon missiles UGM-84 Sub-Harpoon block II, with a projected Naval Strike Missile submarine-launched variant.
