Cyprus Navy conducts drills with French Navy's FREMM frigate Languedoc.

According to information published by the Cyprus MoD on May 29, 2023, an international maritime exercise took place in the southern sea area of Limassol, involving the presence of the French Navy's frigate Languedoc.

The exercise was designed by the Navy Command in collaboration with the French Navy, and it included the participation of the Naval Special Forces Unit (Alasia) from the Navy Command, an AW-139 helicopter from the Air Force Command, and the frigate Languedoc.

About the Alasia

The Alasia patrol vessel has a standard displacement of 785 tons and a full displacement of 900 tons. Its length is 55.6 meters at the waterline and 61.5 meters overall.

The vessel has a breadth of 10.7 meters and a draught of 3.05 meters. It is equipped with two shafts and powered by two Paxman Mk 12YJCM diesel engines, providing a total power of 3350 horsepower. The maximum speed of the vessel is 17 knots.

The Alasia patrol vessel runs on diesel oil and has a fuel capacity that is not specified. It has an endurance of 5000 nautical miles at a speed of 11.5 knots.

The vessel is armed with a helicopter deck for helicopter operations. Its electronic equipment includes a Decca TM1226 radar. The complement of the vessel consists of 34 crew members and can accommodate an additional 37 passengers.
