UMEX 2024: Turkish company Aselsan showcases Marlin Sida USV in UAE.

At the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) in 2024, held in the United Arab Emirates, the Turkish firm Aselsan showcased the Marlin SIDA, an Unmanned Surface Vehicle.

It is interesting to note that Aselsan's presentation of the USV at UMEX took place just after its official commissioning into the Turkish armed forces. Following its domestic success, the Turkish company is keen to position itself for sales to Gulf countries.

About the USV

The Marlin SİDA is an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) equipped for various maritime operations. With a displacement of 21 long tons and dimensions of 15 meters in length and a beam of 3.85 meters, it is designed for a range of activities including surveillance and maritime security.

This USV can reach speeds of up to 35 knots (65 km/h; 40 mph) and has a range of 1,000 nautical miles (1,900 km; 1,200 mi). Its endurance is up to 72 hours, supported by two diesel engines. The Marlin SİDA integrates systems like KARETTA dynamic positioning, an anti-jam system for GNSS, and an active stabilization system, enhancing its navigational capabilities.

In terms of armament and defense, the vessel is equipped with a 12.7 mm remote-controlled weapon station, long-range guided missiles, and a light torpedo. It also features an Electronic Warfare Support System and Sonobuoy, adding to its defensive and offensive capabilities in electronic warfare.
