In early April 2016 has been an exciting one for ECA Group teams with a demonstration of its A9-M, a man-portable AUV dedicated to mine warfare. At the request of a foreign country Navy the ECA Group team has successfully demonstrated the operational effectiveness of the A9-M for mine-warfare operations.

Ingalls-built John P. Murtha (LPD 26) Successfully Completes Acceptance Trials in Gulf of Mexico
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced the successful completion of acceptance sea trials for the company’s 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26). The ship, built at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, spent six days with the test and trials team performing more than 200 trial events that included both an in-port and underway portion.

Australia Shortlisted Navantia Fincantieri and BAE Systems for the SEA5000 ASW Frigate Program
 
The Australian Governement announced the designs shortlisted for the SEA5000 ASW Frigate program. First pass approval for the Future Frigates. Three designers – BAE Systems with the Type 26 Frigate; Fincantieri with the FREMM Frigate, and Navantia with a redesigned F100 – have been short-listed to refine their designs. The frigates will all be built in Adelaide, incorporating the Australian-developed CEA Phased-Array Radar.

Austal Selected as Preferred Tenderer for Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project
 
Austal Limited (Austal) is pleased to announce it has been awarded preferred tenderer status by the Commonwealth of Australia for the Pacific Patrol Boats Replacement (PPBR) Project. The PPBR project involves the construction of up to 21 steel-hulled patrol vessels and through life sustainment over 30 years in a total Government expenditure of up to $900 million. Austal’s share of the PPBR program will include the construction of the vessels and short to medium term maintenance components of the project.

Video: US Navy F-35C Carrier Variant Starts AGM-154 JSOW Qualifications
 
The US Navy released a video showing a F-35C Lightning II test aircraft (the carrier variant of the JSF Joint Strike Fighter) conducting the first weapon separation test of an AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW). The drop test marks the beginning of the qualifications campaign for this weapon. It took place on March 23 at the NAVAIR Atlantic Test Range with aircraft CF-05 assigned to the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23.

Recent images from China are showing two People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Project 956E Sovremennyy destroyers undergoing major refit and upgrade. It appears that the PLAN is upgrading its class of four destroyers (two 956E followed by two improved 956EM) acquired from Russia with domestic systems.

Vietnam Launched Two Project 12418 Tarantul-class Corvettes Produced Under Licence
 
Vietnamese shipyard Ba Son has launched two Russian-designed Project 12418 Molniya-class (NATO reporting name: Tarantul-class) guided missile corvettes built for the Vietnamese Navy under licence. Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Truong Quang Khanh, Ho Chi Minh City Communist Party Committee Secretary Dinh La Thang and Russian Consul General Alexei Popov have attended the ceremony in the southern Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh.

U.S. Navy Awards Lockheed Martin $25 Million Contract for Production of Paveway II ELGTR
 
Lockheed Martin has received a $25.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to produce Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR). Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver ELGTRs, as well as refurbish reusable shipping containers and provide associated technical data, extending ELGTR production into late 2018. The award represents the last of four options under the $84.5 million ELGTR indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract received in 2013.

In the course of it, they, inter alia, rendered assistance to a simulated ship in distress, replenished at sea and maintained their technical readiness, an Eastern Military District spokesman, Roman Martov, told TASS on Wednesday.

The French procurement agency (DGA) received, on behalf of the French Navy (Marine Nationale) the "d'Entrecasteaux" on March 25 2016. It is the first B2M (for bâtiment multi-missions or multi-mission vessel) intended for the overseas missions of sovereignty. D'Entrecasteaux will soon join its home port of Noumea in New Caledonia.

The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) has entered into an agreement and signed a contract with Terma on Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD). The aim is to provide DALO with study and advisory support within the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) and IAMD domains related to the Danish government’s decision to upgrade at least one of the IVER HUITFELDT class frigates to a BMD sensor role and offer this capability to the NATO BMD system.

Russian Helicopters, part of State Corporation Rostec, has fulfilled its first contract for after-sale maintenance of multirole Mi-17-1V helicopters operated by the Mexican Navy.“This is our first contract with the Naval Secretariat of Mexico. It was fulfilled in full and on time,” said Igor Chechikov, Russian Helicopter's deputy CEO. “Mexico is one of our key partners in Latin America; it has quite an extensive fleet of Russian-made helicopters. In 2016, we will expand cooperation with our Mexican partners in terms of after-sale service. The parties are already involved in negotiations on these issues.”
