PT PAL Shipyard Launched the 1st Tarlac Class Strategic Sealift Vessel LPD for the Philippine Navy
 
Indonesian state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL launched BRP Tarlac (LD601) the Philippine Navy's first Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV) at its shipyard in Surabaya. The vessel was launched and christened right before the launch of a SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided-missile frigates for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).

U.S. Navy C-2A Crew Conducted Qualification Flights with French Navy Aircraft Carrier
 
The U.S. Navy recently tested its newly developed Common Control System (CCS) with a submersible unmanned vehicle during a series of underwater missions at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport in Puget Sound, Washington. The CCS successfully demonstrated its capability to provide command and control to a surrogate Large Displacement Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (LDUUV).
On January 6th, a US Navy C-2A Greyhound carrier on-board delivery (COD) aircraft from fleet logistic support squadron VRC-40 "Rawhides" performed some qualification flights with French Navy (Marine Nationale) aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Nine traps (arrested landing) and a series of touch and go were performed by three US Navy pilots. The goal was to re-qualify them in operations aboard the French aircraft carrier.

Russia's 2nd & 3rd Lada Class Submarine Delivery Slips to 2019, Fate of the Class Uncertain
 
There are no plans to discontinue the construction of Project 677 Lada-class diesel-electric submarines (SSK) yet, Deputy Navy Commander-in-Chief Vice Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov told journalists on Thursday. The second and third submarines, the Kronstadt and Velikiye Luki, will be delivered later than scheduled in 2019 but the Russian Navy says the class is much quiter compared to the Project 636 Kilo-class.

The French procurement agency (DGA) and the French Navy (Marine Nationale) announced they have successfully conducted the first airdrop of the new ECUME RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) during a test conducted on January 13, 2016. The French Navy even released an interesting video of the test which was carried out in Brest harbor (Western France) from a French Air Force (Armée de l'Air) C-130H Hercules transport aircraft.

Navantia Said to Be in Negotiations With Saudi Arabia for 5 Avante 2200 Corvettes
 
According to Spanish daily newspaper La Voz de Galicia, Spanish shipyard Navantia is said to be in advanced negotiations with Saudi Arabia for five Avante 2200 corvettes. The newspaper talks about "final phase" of talks. It is likely that Navantia is competing against Lockheed Martin who is offering four Multi-Mission Surface Combatant (MMSC) Ships, an export variant of Lockheed Martin's Freedom class LCS currently in use with the U.S. Navy.

General Dynamics’ AN/PRC-155 MUOS-Manpack Radio Supports Testing of MUOS Network
 
The General Dynamics Mission Systems’ two-channel AN/PRC-155 MUOS-Manpack radio has successfully provided voice and data communications with on-orbit Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellites during a recently concluded government test of the MUOS satellite network. The demonstration was part of an Army conducted customer test with the AN/PRC-155 MUOS-Manpack radio running terrestrial waveforms – the Soldier Radio Waveform and the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System waveform – simultaneously with the MUOS waveform. The demonstration, paired with Navy MUOS operational tests, will help determine if the MUOS waveform is ready for operational use across the services.
