QinetiQ Awarded Contract to Support Delivery of EMALS & AAG on the US Navy Next-Gen CVN
 
QinetiQ North America (QNA) today announced that it has entered into a contract valued at $16M from General Atomics (GA) in San Diego, California to deliver control hardware and software for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) to be installed on the U.S. Navy’s next Gerald R. Ford Class aircraft carrier, the future John F. Kennedy (CVN 79).

UTC Aerospace Systems Delivers First Sonar Dome Rubber Window of New U.S. Navy Contract
 
UTC Aerospace Systems has delivered, on schedule and on budget, the first sonar dome rubber window to the U.S. Navy on a new five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. This delivery marks the 345th surface ship sonar dome rubber window delivered to support the Navy Fleet. UTC Aerospace Systems' Engineered Polymer Products (EPP) team in Jacksonville, Florida, has supplied sonar domes for FFG-7, DDG-51, and CG-47 class ships to the U.S. Navy and allied navies for more than 50 years. EPP is part of the Aerostructures business of UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

Mexican Navy Orders Three Damen Stan Patrol 4207 Patrol Vessels

The guided missile frigate Jingzhou (Hull Number 532) officially joined the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) on Tuesday. A naming and flag-presenting ceremony was held to mark the commissioning of the Type 054A Frigate to the East China Sea Fleet of the PLAN at a naval port in Zhoushan city of east China's Zhejiang province on January 5, 2016. Jingzhou is the 21st Type 054A Frigate and is assigned to the PLAN's South Sea Fleet.

DARPA Awards Northrop Grumman Contract for Full-Scale TERN Demonstration Program
 
The Project 11356M (NATO reporting name: Krivak V-class) Admiral Grigorovich frigate built by the Yantar Shipyard has completed both phases of its qualification trials and is getting prepared for delivery to the Russian Navy, the shipyard’s press office told TASS.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Office of Naval Research have awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation the third phase of the Tern unmanned systems program. Phase three plans to include final design, fabrication and a full-scale, at-sea demonstration of the system.

Raytheon Company has been awarded a $255,281,689 fixed-price-incentive firm target modification to a previously awarded contract to procure mission system equipment for the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002). This contract modification includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this award to $349,243,022. .

China's Defense Ministry Confirmed the Construction of an Aircraft Carrier Type 001A for PLAN
 
Yang Yujun, a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson, confirmed on December 31st that China is designing and building its second aircraft carrier "completely on its own" a the shipyard in Dalian in northeastern Liaoning Province. Yujun added explained during the last monthly press briefing of 2015 that this carrier, with a displacement of 50,000 tonnes, is designed to accommodate J-15 Flying Shark fighters and other types of aircraft.

Following the delivery ceremony which took place in December 2015 at the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company (CSOC)'s Wuchang Shipyard in Wuhan, the two new Bangladesh Navy C13B Corvettes, BNS Shadhinota (F111) and BNS Prottoy (F112), left China and are on their way to their home base. As can be seen in these pictures the C13B-class of corvette shares many similarities with the PLAN's Type 056 Jiangdao class (on which it is based).

Located near the city of Yeysk [in the Krasnodar Territory in southwest Russia] the facility just got fitted with a land based ski-jump to train Russian pilots in aircraft carrier operations.
