Russian Navy signs contract during Army 2020 forum for two more diesel submarines


As reported on August 25, 2020, by TASS news agency, the Russian Defense Ministry signed contracts for the construction of two large diesel submarines of projects 636.3 and 677. The signing ceremony of state contracts took place at Army 2020 forum.

The agreements include contracts for building new ships for the Navy, TASS reports. Two large diesel-powered submarines are to be built by Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg. Severnaya Verf shipyard was commissioned to build frigates and corvettes.

The ceremony also announced the signing of another contract with the Zvezdochka Shipbuilding Center for "the repair and modernization of Project 971 nuclear-powered submarines of the Northern Fleet."

The overall value of the contracts signed by the Ministry of Defense during the forum exceeds a trillion rubles (13,484.6 billion dollars).

For the record, in June 2019, a contract was signed within the framework of the Army 2019 forum between the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" for the construction of two more submarines of the project 677 for the Russian Navy.

Thus, the submarine of project 677 contracted on August 25, 2020, within the framework of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2020" should become the sixth unit of this type.
