Future Russian Navy Gremyashchy corvette to be delivered in 2020


The Severnaya Verf shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) plans to transfer the head corvette of Project 20385 Gremyashchy to the Russian Navy in the first half of the year 2020.

According to the spokesman of Severnaya Verf shipbuilder, the pant will transfer the “Thundering Corvette" to the Russian Navy in the first half of 2020.

On Wednesday, the “Thundering” corvette, which was undergoing state sea trials in the Northern Fleet, entered the Barents Sea from Severomorsk and headed for the Baltic.

During state tests, the ship fired with Caliber and Onyx cruise missiles at coastal and naval targets in the White Sea and A-190 and AK-630 artillery mounts at simulated air targets in the Barents Sea. In addition, he worked out torpedo launches on underwater and surface targets using new types of naval weapons. The final element of the test program in the Northern Fleet was the development of the struggle for the survivability of the ship and its towing, the press service of the Baltic Fleet said.

The project 20385 corvette is an improved version of the previous project 20380 corvettes. The new ship is distinguished from its predecessors by enhanced shock capabilities, as well as an air defense system. Earlier it was reported that in the future, the “Thundering” corvette could be equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles.

Project 20385 corvettes were designed by Almaz bureau. The multirole corvettes have to detect and destroy submarines and surface warships, support landing operations and engage in various brown-water missions.

The displacement is 2500 thousand tons, the length is 106 meters, the width - 13 meters, the speed - 27 knots, the cruising capacity is 4000 miles and autonomous navigation is 15 days. The corvettes are armed with the universal Kalibr launchers, the antiaircraft Redut missiles, antisubmarine Paket complex, 100mm artillery gun A-190-01, two 30mm AK-630M, and a Ka-27 antisubmarine helicopter.
