"This is the first sortie of the missile cruiser following her repairs. The crew of the Pyotr Veliky has completed the base training and checked the weapons and systems of the ship for being fit for use at sea," the press office added.

The crews of the Pyotr Veliky and tanker Sergei Osipov conducted an exercise in the roads in Severomorsk to sharpen their replenishment-at-anchorage skills. The Pyotr Veliky is to leave the naval base escorted by five coastal and ocean minesweepers.

"The crew will spend several days practicing their cruise standing operating procedures and checking their weapons and systems in the Barents Sea. Damage control drills will be conducted on the move and at an anchorage, and the personnel will train to receive helicopters and execute antisubmarine and air defense," the press office told journalists.

The press office stressed that the Pyotr Veliky’s sortie "will be the first seamanship training for the draftees and a number of enlistees who signed up in 2015 and 2016." The press office also reminded that the cruiser had gone to the Mediterranean in 2013-2014 on a mission more than seven months long.

It was reported in September 2015 that the Pyotr Veliky was placed in a dry dock of the 82nd Shipyard in Roslyakovo (Murmansk Region). While in the dry dock, the cruiser was supposed to be repaired, with the repairs to apply to her hull, prop-and-rudder systems and shafting. The hull’s submerged part also was supposed to be painted and the engineer department hardware repaired.
