Shipyard to Lay Keel of First Two Project 636.3 Submarine for Russian Pacific Fleet
 
Two Project 636.3 (NATO reporting name: Improved Kilo-class) diesel-electric submarine designed for the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet will be laid by the Admiralty Wharfs Shipyard in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia in the first quarter of 2017, Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Vladimir Korolyov said.

"In the first quarter of 2017, the Admiralty Wharves Shipyard in St. Petersburg will lay down two absolutely new ice-class patrol ships for the Navy and the first two out of six Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines designed for the Pacific Fleet," Korolyov said.

Before the yearend, the Navy will receive the first large amphibious assault ship Ivan Gren, the third frigate Admiral Makarov designed for the Black Sea Fleet and the icebreaker Ilya Muromets intended for the Northern Fleet, he added.

"Russian Navy ships and submarines are receiving precision weapons. The Navy can be a guarantor of peace and stability," the commander added,

Admiralty Wharfs will build six Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines for the Pacific Fleet. The deal was struck in the course of the Army 2016 forum held in the Moscow Region. Their construction is due for completion in 2021.
