The acceptance act was inked by the chair of the acceptance commission of the Navy, Captain 1st rank Alexey Poteshkin, Sevmash Shipyard CEO Mikhail Budnichenko, Rubin Chief Designer Sergey Sukhanov and SSBN Commander Captain 1st rank Vladislav Druzhin. The acceptance act confirms the readiness of the submarine for operation in the Russian Navy.

“The construction of the Knyaz Vladimir confirmed our best shipbuilding traditions based on the excellent work and high responsibility of scientists, designers and shipbuilders. The submarine is a new event in the line of strategic submarines and has improved characteristics,” Budnichenko said.

Druzhin said the crew have fully studied the submarine and are ready to operate it. The SSBN will officially join the Navy on the day when St. Andrew’s flag is hoisted on it. The Knyaz Vladimir made a controlling sortie on May 12-21. In December 2019, it successfully completed acceptance trials. The submarine was laid on July 30, 2012. It is the lead SSBN of upgraded project 955A.

The Borei Class is a fourth-generation nuclear-powered missile submarine produced by the Russian naval defense company Sevmash. The Borei-A is an improved version of the Borei class submarine with new communication and detection systems, improved acoustic signature. The Borei-A is able to carry 16 Bulava SLBM (Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile) which is based on the Topol M design. The missile has a length of 12.1m with a diameter of 2.1. It has a weight of 36.8 metric tonnes and a range of 8,000 km. it also has eight 533-mm forward torpedo tubes, nearly 40 torpedoes, missile-torpedoes, and torpedo mines. It carries autonomous sonar countermeasures devices.

The Borei-A submarine has a length of nearly 170 meters, a width of 13.5 meters and a displacement of 24,000 tons. It has a maximum depth of 480 meters. It carries a 90-days food supply for crew. As for its life-support systems, it can operate autonomously for decades. Its crew numbers 107 members.
