Barracuda SSN: DCNS opens combat system shore integration facility
 
Over 100 people, including DCNS employees and representatives of the DGA, the French Navy and partners, attended a ceremony at the Toulon naval base on Wednesday 28 November to inaugurate the combat system shore integration facility for the Suffren, the first nuclear-powered attack submarine of the new Barracuda type. The combat system is the submarine’s central nervous system. It manages all command and control functions involving all sensors and weapons in real time.

A new generation of 37,000-tonne tankers is to be ordered for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) to support future Royal Navy operations around the globe, the MOD has announced on 22 feb. Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) is the Government's preferred bidder for the deal.

The French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA, Direction générale de l’armement) has recently conducted successful sea trials of D2AD (Démonstration technologique d’un système d’Appontage et d’Atterrissage pour Drones), an automatic takeoff and landing system for rotary wing UAVs. D2AD is a demonstrator, designed and built by DCNS and Thales who were awarded the contract in late 2008.
