The flag-raising ceremony took place at the Ras el-Tin naval base near Alexandria. The R-32 missile boat armed with the P-120 Moskit (SS-N-22 Sunburn) anti-ship missiles (ASM) was granted to the Egyptian Navy by Russia in order to support the country`s counter-terroristic efforts. The ship will increase the inshore capability of the service.

Moscow and Cairo came to conclusion over the delivery of the R-32 missile boat to the Egyptian Navy in Summer 2015. Russia also trained the group of the Egyptian naval officers to operate the ship. The boat`s crew has already taken up the duties in the Mediterranean sea.

The R-32 missile boat is armed with four P-120 Moskit ASM launchers and four Strela-3 (SA-14 Gremlin) man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) with 16 surface-to-air missiles.
