China's 27th Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class) Huai'an Commissioned in PLAN East Sea Fleet
 
A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new Huai'an corvette (hull number 509) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) was held solemnly at the Zhoushan Naval Base (located in China's Zhejiang province). The event means that the vessel is officially commissioned to the PLAN. Qujing is the twenty-seventh Type 056 Corvette (Jiangdao class) in the PLAN fleet.

Huai'an, the fourth corvette of the class to be commissioned this year, joined the PLAN's East Sea Fleet. The corvette's keel was laid in January 2015 by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding near Shanghai. It was launched on August 15, 2015. According to a PLAN statement, Huai'an belongs to the 22nd Flotilla of the East Sea Fleet which is now complete with 2x Type 056A ASW corvettes (593 Sanmenxia and 594 Zhuzhou) and two Type 056 corvettes (582 Bengbu and 509 Huai’an).

According to a Chinese MOD statement, Type 056 Corvettes are new-generation light guided missile frigates independently developed by China. It has a length of 89 meters, a beam of 11 meters and a full-load displacement of 1,500 tons.

The warship, independently developed, designed and constructed by China, is equipped with a variety of weapons and equipment, and is featured by good stealth performance, strong compatibility, and a wide range of applications of advanced technologies.

After commissioned to the PLAN, the warship will perform such missions as patrolling, alert, fishery protection, escort, antisubmarine operation and anti-surface operation.

There are currently at least six more Type 056A and Type 056 corvettes at various stages of construction in Chinese naval shipyards. Four of them are likely to be commissioned before year end. As of today, close to 60 corvettes of this type have been ordered by the PLAN (with 27 commissioned so far).
