Project 12700 MCM Vessels to be Equipped with Russian Made Unmanned Surface Vehicles

Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV) developed by Russia’s Taifun Company will be mounted on at least three serial-produced Project 12700 Alexandrit-class mine sweepers, CEO of Russia’s Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard Vladimir Seredokho said in an interview with the Flotprom online media organization.

According to the CEO, the mine sweeper Vladimir Yemelyanov will receive an unmanned boat manufactured by the Taifun Company.
The unmanned boat is based on the BL-680 multipurpose high-speed rigid inflatable boat developed and produced by Russia’s Mnev & K Company. The company told Flotprom that it would deliver boat hulls to the Taifun Company. As a spokesman for the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard told Flotprom, all serial-produced Project 12700 ships will be equipped with unmanned boats manufactured by the Taifun Company. During a ceremony of delivering the mine sweeper Alexander Obukhov to the Navy in December 2016, Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Korolyov told Flotprom that serial-produced Project 12700 mine sweepers would receive Russian-made unmanned boats. According to Korolyov, all anti-mine equipment of the next Alexandrit-class mine sweepers, including unmanned boats, will be Russian-made. The Project 12700 Alexandrit-class MCM vessels have been designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau (a subsidiary of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). They can use the newest sonar stations mounted on the vessel or TV-controlled/autonomous underwater vehicles and are fitted with an automated MCM control system. The vessels can also use traditional minesweeping gear. The Project 12700 MCM vessels feature the world`s biggest unique monolithic fiberglass hull formed by vacuum infusion. © Copyright 2017 TASS.
