BAE Systems today announced that it has submitted its bid to the Australian Government for the nation’s SEA 5000 Future Frigate program. The bid is to partner with the Government to develop a long-term ship building strategy in Australia for complex warships and to offer a proposal to build nine Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates for the Royal Australian Navy.

Ahead of her first entry to Portsmouth, HMS Queen Elizabeth has met up with the USS George HW Bush and her carrier strike group off the coast of Scotland. The Nimitz-class US carrier has more than 60 Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines on board, who have been working with their US counterparts to hone carrier strike skills ahead of HMS Queen Elizabeth's entry into service.

The contract with Zodiac Milpro, is valued at over USD 2million and was for the supply and installation of anexpeditionaryversion of NIDAR command and control system and the complete sensors package. The NiDAR X(eXpeditionary) is to be fitted to a flotilla of 11m Hurricane RIB fast patrol and intercept vessels for an undisclosed special forces unit.

The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) commissioned the first vessel of a new class of ocean going tug boat. The Bei Tuo (hull number 739) vessel displacing 6,000 tons was commissioned on July 20th with the PLAN North Sea Fleet during a ceremony held at the Qingdao naval base, in north China’s Shandong province.

South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced that the second LST-II class Landing Ship Tank "Cheon Ja Bong" was delivered today to the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy). The LST is the second of four vessels set to be built by 2018 as part of South Korea's the next generation landing ship project. The first ship, the "Cheon Wang Bong", was delivered to the ROK Navy in November 2014.

With the first successful launch and recovery of a fighter jet aboard the Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the U.S. Navy made history during a brief test event July 28. The newly commissioned ship’s Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) and Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS) figured prominently in the flight operations, which comprised four arrestments and four launches.

U.S. naval forces and the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force concluded 2JA mine countermeasures exercise (MCMEX) after 10 days of unit-level and combined MCM-related drills on July 28. 2JA MCMEX is an annual bilateral exercise held between the U.S. and Japan to strengthen interoperability and increase proficiencies in mine countermeasures operations. This year marks the 100th time that the U.S. and the Japanese have conducted bilateral mine countermeasures together, often conducting them twice a year, since bilateral exercises of this type began in 1962.

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) announced today that its new 10 Mega Joule (MJ) medium range multi-mission railgun system has completed final assembly and factory acceptance test in preparation for transport to Dugway Proving Ground in Utah to begin testing. The 10 MJ railgun system has been designed and built by GA-EMS to provide multi-mission, multi-domain capability with greater flexibility and a smaller footprint for ship, land and mobile platforms.
