Republic of Singapore Navy Commissions Littoral Mission Vessel - RSS Independence The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) celebrated today its 50th birthday. To mark its Golden Jubilee, PM Lee Hsien Loong was invited to Changi Naval Base to celebrate this special occasion. He commissioned RSN's first Littoral Mission Vessel, RSS Independence; this ship will be the first to join the Fearless-class Patrol Vessels in ensuring that Singapore's straits remain safe and secure.

Peru launched its First LPD - BAP Pisco Landing Platform Dock Peruvian naval shipbuilding and shiprepair association (Servicio Industrial de la Marina de Guerra del Perú) SIMA in Callao (SIMA Callao), christened and launched the country's first landing platform dock (LPD) BAP Pisco (officially classified as a "multipurpose ship" - Buque Multipropósito). The ceremony was attended by the President of Peru.

Indonesian shipyard PT PAL (Persero) in Surabaya held the steel cutting ceremony of the sixth landing platform dock (LPD) for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL). The contract for the construction of this ship was concluded by the Indonesian Navy with PT PAL on January 11, 2017. The vessel is set to be delivered by December 11, 2018.

South Korean Shipyard HHIC Laid the Keel of an Improved Dokdo-type LPH/LPX for ROK Navy
The South Korean defense procurement agency (DAPA) and local shipyard Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) in Busan, held the keel laying ceremony on April 28th for a second Landing Platform Helicopter (LPH) amphibious assault ship for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy). The launch of the new vessel (designated S139 / LPX) is scheduled for one year from now (April 2018). Delivery of the ship to the ROK Navy fleet is scheduled for 2020.

Austal Limited has joined the Royal Australian Navy in celebrating the official naming of the ninth Cape-class patrol boat designed and constructed by Austal, at a ceremony held at the HMAS Stirling naval base in Western Australia. The first of two Cape-class patrol boats to be delivered to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) under a A$63 million contract, ADV Cape Fourcroy is named after the western most tip of Bathurst Island in the Northern Territory.

Russia to Spend $714 Million on Aircraft Carrier Admiral Kuznetsov’s Repair The repair and upgrade of the Project 11435 aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will start in September at a shipyard near Murmansk in north Russia, a source in Russia’s defense industry told TASS. Almost 40 billion rubles ($714 million) will be spent on the ship’s modernization, the source added.
