The PLA Navy recently released a video introducing its arsenal to celebrate the upcoming anniversary, and a Type 055 large destroyer with the hull number 104 was shown in the video sailing at sea.
This marks the official debut of the fourth Type 055 large destroyer, following the commissioning of the Nanchang (Hull 101) in January 2020, the Lhasa (Hull 102) in March 2021, and the Dalian (Hull 105) in April 2021.
Type 055 destroyer
The Type 055 large destroyer is a class of stealth-guided missile destroyers being constructed for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy.
It is a multi-mission design; the combination of sensors and weapons suggests the main role of area air defense, with anti-submarine warfare capabilities surpassing previous Chinese surface combatants.
Having a displacement of more than 12,000 tons, Type 055 is equipped with 112 vertical launch missile cells capable of launching a combination of surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, land-attack missiles, and anti-submarine missiles.
Type 052D destroyer
The Type 052D destroyer (Luyang III-class destroyer) is a class of guided-missile destroyers in the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy.
The Type 052D is equipped with Type 346A AESA and Type 518 L-band radar. It is also equipped with both variable depth (VDS) and linear towed array sonar.
The powerplant is a combined diesel or gas (CODOG) system with two 28-megawatt (38,000 hp) QC-280 gas turbines and two 6 MW (8,000 hp) MTU 20V 956TB92 diesel engines. The machinery drives two shafts for a maximum speed of 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).
