The training included the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), guided-missile cruiser’s USS Antietam (CG 54) and USS Chancellorsville (CG 62), aircraft from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) Five, embarked staffs of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) Five and the JMSDF destroyers JS Ohnami (DD 111) and JS Yamagiri (DD 152).
About the Japanese destroyer
JS Ōnami (DD-111) is the second vessel of the Takanami-class destroyers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). She was commissioned into service on 13 March 2003 and was initially assigned to the JMSDF Escort Flotilla 1 based at Yokosuka.
The hull design is generally based on the one of the Murasame-class. However, as a part of the weapons was changed, the internal structure has also been changed.

The destroyer is armed with Otobreda 127 mm/54 gun, two missile canisters up to 8 Type 90 (SSM-1B), two 20 mm Phalanx CIWS, two Type 68 triple torpedo tubes VLS Mk 41 (32 cells) with Evolved Sea Sparrow SAM and RUM-139 VL ASROC.
