BAE Systems’ Sensor Hits the Mark in Live LRASM Missile Flight Test
 
Functioning as the eyes and the ears of Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) prototype, BAE Systems’ advanced long range sensor is designed to enable targeted attacks within a group of enemy ships protected by sophisticated air defense systems. The company successfully demonstrated the new long-range sensor, precisely guiding the LRASM prototype to its target in a recent live missile shot test, under a joint program of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Vancouver Shipyards to build MEMTVs and OPVs for the Canadian Coast Guard
 
Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division has started fabrication on the U.S. Coast Guard's sixth National Security Cutter (NSC), Munro (WMSL 755). "Our shipbuilders have a great jump start on the construction of this ship as we have already cut and processed more than 400 tons of steel for NSC 6," said Jim French, Ingalls' NSC program manager.
The Canadian Government announced that Vancouver Shipyards will be building up to 10 additional large non-combat ships for the Canadian Coast Guard fleet at an estimated cost of $3.3 billion. Minister Finley made the announcement during a visit to Vancouver Shipyards, which was selected to build the non-combat package of vessels through the Government’s National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS).

MU90 torpedo enters Royal Australian Navy service
 
The MU90 lightweight torpedo has entered active service with the Royal Australian Navy, having achieved Operational Release Status after a recent final test firing. The entry into service has been achieved as a result of close collaboration between the Djimindi Alliance (comprising the Defence Materiel Organisation, Thales Australia and EuroTorp), the Royal Australian Navy and its RAN Test Evaluation Analysis Authority, and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation.

HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier Flight Deck Completed
 
The flight deck of the first of the Navy's new aircraft carriers is now finished, with the last 2 sections added to HMS Queen Elizabeth. The sponsons, each weighing just under 500 tonnes, roughly the same as a Sandown Class minehunter, have been carefully inched into place in Rosyth in Scotland.

USMC MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft Lands onboard HMS Illustrious
 
Set against a sunset backdrop in the Red Sea an MV-22 Osprey landed on the flight deck of HMS Illustrious for the first time in six years. The world’s first tilt-rotor aircraft, the Osprey has a unique vertical take-off and landing capability, and arrived on the Gulf-bound warship as she passed the USS Kearsarge which has 12 on board.

U.S. Navy SEALs were involved in counterterrorism operations in Somalia and Libya
 
The Pentagon confirmed Saturday, October 5, 2013, that U.S. Navy Special Forces SEALS have carried out two separate raids in Africa targeting senior Islamist militants. The first one in Somalia against a terrorist of the al-Shabaab, which is responsible for the recent attack at a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. The second one in Libya where the SEALS captured an al-Qaeda leader accused of the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Dassault Aviation and Thales welcome the award by the French Ministry of Defence of the contract to modernise the French Navy’s fleet of Atlantique 2 (ATL2) maritime patrol aircraft. Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian signed the contract at a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Thales facility in Brest (French Brittany), in the presence of Laurent Collet-Billon (DGA), Eric Trappier (Dassault Aviation), Jean-Bernard Lévy (Thales), Patrick Boissier (DCNS) and Patrick Dufour (SIAé).
The New Zealand MoD has confirmed its preferred tenderers for the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) ANZAC Frigate Systems Upgrade project to include MBDA as the provider of Sea Ceptor for the Local Area Air Defence system; subject to the New Zealand Government’s final approval to proceed. Sea Ceptor will equip frigates HMNZ Te Kaha and Te Mana with the latest generation naval air defence system capable of protecting not only the host ship but also combined joint allied forces in the vicinity.

Raytheon's newest SM-3 intercepts medium-range ballistic missile target at highest altitude to date
 
Raytheon Company was awarded a $218,530,196 contract by the Missile Defense Agency to complete the assembly and delivery of 29 Standard Missile-3 Block IB missiles. Launched off U.S. Navy ships, SM-3 interceptors protect the U.S. and its allies by destroying incoming short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats by colliding with them in space.
In a Missile Defense Agency test, the U.S. Navy fired a Standard Missile-3 Block IB, made by Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), from the USS Lake Erie. The SM-3 eliminated the medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) target at the highest altitude of any test to date.

Dassault Aviation delivered a new Falcon 50 M to the DGA for the French Navy
 
On 11 September 2013 in Mérignac, Dassault Aviation delivered a Falcon 50 M to the French defense procurement agency (DGA) to ensure maritime surveillance tasks. This aircraft is the first in a series of four State-owned Falcon 50B (initially operated by Etec, the French Air Force squadron that ensured presidential and other official flights) to be transformed for maritime surveillance missions. It will join four other Falcon 50 M jets in service in the French Navy since the early 2000s.

Ford (CVN 78) has put on significant weight in the dry dock at its Newport News Shipbuilding division with the installation of four 30-ton bronze propellers. At 21 feet in diameter, each propeller spins to push the aircraft carrier through the water.

The total number of blocks lifted onto the ship structure now stands at 22 with Block 417 lifted into place earlier this month. Block 417 will eventually carry the MK 45 Mod 4 5 inch 62 calibre gun, the gun magazine and ammunition. In the coming month another four key blocks are expected to be lifted onto the ship structure, this includes Block 503, the stern of the ship, Block 709 that will hold the Aegis SPY radar array faces, the mast and Block 601, the bow of the ship.

PIRIOU Shipyard launches the ALMAK, a Maritime Training Vessel of 44 meters
 
The Almak, Maritime Training Vessel (MTV) of 44 meters, was officially delivered today by Piriou group during a launching ceremony held in Concarneau, in the presence of the painter Anne Smith, patron of the vessel and official painter to the French Navy. The Almak is the result of close collaboration between DCI and Piriou who created the company navOcéan in July 2012 to build an MTV.

Iranian Navy plans to build new frigates for the Caspian Sea area
 
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to build new frigates in the Caspian Sea," Commander of the Iranian Army's 4th Naval Zone Admiral Khordad Hakimi told reporters in the Northern port city of Anzali today. He announced the Navy's plans to further develop its equipment in the Caspian Sea. Hakimi also underlined that "establishment of order, security, peace and friendship in the Caspian Sea region is the Navy's strategy".
