Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen visited a Fleet Exercise conducted by the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) in the South China Sea on 22 March 2016. During the visit, Dr Ng witnessed the successful live firing of a Barak anti-missile missile from the RSN's Victory-class missile corvette RSS Vigour. Dr Ng was also briefed by Colonel Edwin Leong, Commanding Officer of the RSN's Missile Corvette Squadron, on the conduct of the exercise and the capabilities of the missile corvette.

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) announced that two US Marine Corps V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft conducted a series of "touch and go" and refuelling aboard Mistral class LHD Tonnerre on March 19 2016. While V-22s have been tested with the Mistral class several times to date (they were even officially qualified with the Mistral class last year) it is the first time that a back-to-back refuelling of two Ospreys (with engines running) was performed.
The Russian Navy will start a three month-long expedition to islands of the Greater Kuril Ridge in April to study the possibilities of setting up a Pacific Fleet base there, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday. It follows the end of the technical shutdown that started in Toulon at the end of December 2015. Previously known under the name Siroco in French Navy service, the Bahia is a Landing Platform Dock (NDM for Navio Doca Multipropósito in Brazilian) and belonged to the French Navy before being sold to Brazil in 2015.

The ground-based naval aviator training facility in the town of Yeisk is slated for commissioning by the end of the year, Russian Naval Aviation Commander Igor Kozhin told journalists on Tuesday. "The whole facility will be commissioned by year-end," he reported to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who has come to Yeisk to inspect the construction of facilities of the Naval Aviation Combat Training and Conversion Center.

The Project 11356 frigate Admiral Essen has left the Russian Baltic Fleet’s Leningrad Naval Base and gone to the Barents Sea to continue its state trials, the Russian Western Military District’s press office said on Wednesday. "After the frigate covers a distance of about 2,000 nautical miles, the crew will continue testing its equipment and weapons at Northern Fleet sea ranges as part of its state trials," the press office said.

The European Border Control Agency (Frontex) has awarded Indra a service contract which incorporates the company's P2006T MRI aircraft into the EPN Triton maritime surveillance operation in the central zone of the Mediterranean Sea. The agency signed a framework agreement with Indra last August which qualified the company to bid in this type of tender, which Frontex uses to covers its response needs in the case of crisis situations. Indra's MRI P2006T had to compete with aircraft from companies from all over Europe, thus demonstrating its outstanding capabilities.

This assumption, coming from a "well connected source" is interesting and makes much more sense than the SSBN speculation.

The Krylov State Scientific Center produced and handed over to the Russian Navy the preliminary design of the Leader destroyer, Deputy Director General of the center Valery Polyakov told TASS. "In the framework of a contract with the Russian Navy the Krylov center designed the avant-project of a new destroyer codenamed the Leader for the national Navy and Shkval (project 23560E) for export. A full set of blueprints and calculations has been handed over to the customer," he said.
