The group of sea area defense ships based in Kamchatka in Russia’s Far East has received a new Project 21980 Grachonok-class anticommando boat, Russian Pacific Fleet spokesman Captain 2nd Rank Nikolai Voskresensky said.

The boat’s equipment allows detecting and shadowing underwater targets, he added. "This is the fourth Project 21980 boat delivered to the Pacific Fleet under the state rearmament program. The boat is designed to counter enemy underwater commandos and support friendly divers at naval bases," Voskresensky said. "The boat is furnished with advanced diving gear and radio electronic equipment enabling to detect and examine underwater objects," he added. The Project 21980 boat is designed to guard water areas and fight enemy naval commandos in the waters of naval bases and on close approaches to them. The boat has an 8-strong crew and a cruising capacity of five days. The boat is armed with the Igla (NATO reporting name: SA-18 Grouse) man-portable air defense missile systems, the 14.5mm machinegun and DP-65 and DP-64 rocket launchers.
