The Qatar Emiri Naval Forces have ordered two cadet training ships (CTS) from Turkish shipbuilder Anadolu Shipyard during the DIMDEX exhibition held in Qatar between March 12 and 14.The 90-meter ships will be constructed with practical and theoretical training facilities for cadets and instructors, the shipbuilder said.According to Anadolu Shipyard, the vessels will displace 1,950 tonnes and feature a helipad for a medium-size helicopter. The vessels are also set to be capable of performing offshore patrol duties.

The shipbuilder is confident that it will be able to deliver the two ships in 36 months. Anadolu Shipyard continues to expand its naval vessel construction portfolio after beginning its cooperation with Turkey’s defense ministry in 2007. The company has so far built eight landing craft tank ships and an equal number of landing craft. Its most important naval project to date is the construction of two amphibious ships for the Turkish Navy. TCG Bayraktar was commissioned in April 2017 while the second ship, TCG Sancaktar, completed trials this year and is ready for commissioning.

The ships have been specifically designed to meet the Qatari Navy needs. They will be used to train the future Qatari Navy personnel. The ships will be equipped with classrooms, training areas,.. Each ship will have the capacity to train 76 naval cadets.
