Intelligence data, including satellite imagery analyzed on their amphibious transport dock Kalaat Béni Abbès, guided the operation. Algerian Navy Erradii-class frigate maintained a close watch over the situation.

About the LPD

The amphibious transport dock has a displacement of 8,800 tons (8,700 long tons). Her length overall (LOA) is 142.9 m (469 ft), and her length between perpendiculars (LPP) is 127.6 m (419 ft). The beam measures 21.5 m (71 ft), and the draught is 5.3 m (17 ft).

The propulsion system comprises two Wärtsilä 12V32 diesel engines, each generating 12,000 kW or 16,000 horsepower, capable of propelling the ship at a speed of 20 knots (37 km/h or 23 mph). This system enables the vessel to cover a range of 7,000 nautical miles (13,000 km or 8,100 miles) at 15 knots (28 km/h or 17 mph).

The ship can accommodate a crew of 152 petty officers, quartermasters, and sailors, with room for an additional 438 marines and 12 more if needed.

The vessel is equipped with an array of advanced sensors and processing systems. These include a Leonardo-Finmeccanica MFRA 3D AESA radar, two navigation radars, and a helicopter deck radar.

In terms of armament, the ship is fitted with an OTO Melara 76 mm/62 SR Super Rapido and two OTO Melara Oerlikon KBA 25 mm/80. Additionally, she possesses an 8-cell SYLVER A50 VLS that can house eight Aster 15&30 missiles.

Aviation capabilities include the capacity to carry three AW101 transport helicopters or five Super Lynx helicopters. A hangar is available for the recovery and maintenance of the Super Lynx helicopters.
