This submarine, with an overall length of approximately 59 meters and a surface displacement of about 1,600 tons, is characterized by a 1.2 meters longer pressure hull than its predecessors.

This modification not only improves the submarine's hydrodynamics but also contributes to a quieter operational profile, essential for stealth missions. The U212 NFS is designed to accommodate a crew of about 29, ensuring that operational efficiency is balanced with the crew's living conditions for prolonged missions.

The integration of advanced Lithium Ion battery systems is a pivotal update, providing the submarine with extended endurance and operational flexibility. This allows for longer submerged operations without the frequent need to surface, a crucial feature for stealth and surveillance activities.

The U212 NFS is tasked with a broad range of operations, from conventional military missions to more specialized tasks such as ensuring the safety of energy supply routes, observing international law, combating terrorism, and safeguarding maritime and underwater infrastructure.
