European Naval Shipbuilders Weighing their Options for US Navy FFGX Program
Most major European naval shipbuilding companies are closely reviewing their options for the U.S. Navy FFG(X) program. Contacted by Navy Recognition, BAE Systems (United Kingdom), Naval Group (France), Fincantieri (Italy) and Navantia (Spain) acknowledged looking at the RFI. TKMS (Germany) and Damen (Netherlands) didn't return phone calls or emails.

One of which is a next generation of hull mounted sonar designed by Thales: The Kingklip Mk2.

Several recent developments show that studies and development work of a future Chinese carrier-borne airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) continue to progress at the Xi'an Institute of the AVIC Group. These developments follow the rumor that first steel cut of a new CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) aircraft carrier would have taken place at the end of June at the Jiangnan Changxing Shipyard in Shanghai.

According to Indian English-language daily newspaper Hindustan Times, the Indian Navy recently submitted a Request for Information (RFI) to six shipbuilders to build six new submarines as part of the Project 75(I) (P-75I). Valued at €8.3-billion, India's biggest submarine procurement to date, P-75I is set to scale-up the Indian Navy submarine warfare capabilities. Important criterias that will guide supplier choice will be the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP), the means proposed to increase “endurance and stealth capability, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare capability, and land attack capability” as well as other aspects such as transfer of technology (ToT).

VSR700 standing for Vertivision Surveillance Rotorcraft 700 is the expected future VTOL UAV of the French Navy (Marine Nationale). Airbus Helicopters and French shipbuilding group DCNS joined forces for the SDAM (Système de Drones Aériens de la Marine) program. The program which hasn't officially been launched yet calls for the procurement of tactical VTOL UAV for the future FTI mid-size frigates.
