NAVDEX 2023: BAE Systems displays Herne XLAUV

The Herne XLAUV is a modular, highly configurable Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle that provides a new military capability for navies around the world.

The vehicle is designed to cover more of the underwater battlespace than ever before, with a flexible and innovative approach that removes reliance and risk to large platforms and critical resources.

At the core of Herne's configurable design is the latest in battery, propulsion, and autonomy technology, providing maximum mission endurance. The vehicle is capable of hosting a wide range of mission-specific payloads, including underwater and surface capability, that can be configured to meet various mission profiles.

Key features of the design include trusted autonomous systems, proven software that can be reconfigured for each operation, low signature components, secure communications, established naval architecture, proven experience in payload integration, and a tried and trusted navigation system.

The design includes a flexible platform size, multiple ways to launch and recover the vehicle, large and flexible payload space, and ease of service and maintenance.
