"A welcoming ceremony was held at the inner harbor of the port of Baltiysk [in west Russia]," the press office said. The ship and its crew are ready to start protecting Russia’s maritime border, the press office added.

The Project 22460 patrol ship Nadyozhny was built by the Almaz Shipyard in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia.

In May-December 2016, the ship underwent shipbuilders’ sea and state trials. It will guard Russia’s maritime border in the Kaliningrad Region.

Russia’s state border is 648.3 kilometers (403 miles) long, with 170.5 kilometers (106 miles) protected by the Federal Security Service’s Border Guard units.

These units protect Russia’s maritime border in the Baltic Sea, the Kaliningrad Lagoon (also known as the Vistula Lagoon) and the Curonian Lagoon.
