Video: Liveability Standards Onboard Italian Navy’s FREMM Frigates

The Italian Navy (Marina Militare) released an interesting video showing the accommodation and living standards aboard its FREMM Frigates. ITS Marceglia is the newest unit launched within the FREMM programme. This state-of-the-art vessel - result of a synergy between the national shipbuilding industry and the Italian Navy – implements cutting edge marine engineering aimed at providing competitive defence capabilities in complex international scenarios, while ensuring high safety and liveability standards.

Fincantieri Launched the 8th FREMM Antonio Marceglia for Italian Navy Launching ceremony of the “Antonio Marceglia” frigate, the eighth of a series of 10 FREMM vessels.

But what is it like to live and work on board? The video takes us inside the ship in order to understand its structure and organization, and show daily life at sea.

Onboard the Italian Navy ships, officers, petty officers and ratings – both male and female – work side by side with a great team spirit and sense of belonging.

These ships - actually floating cities - are 140m in overall length. Sleeping rooms have been designed for accommodating 4 beds, max.

In the galleys, meals are prepared with special attention to the crew's dietary requirements, and a professional laundry is available for use by all crewmembers, with washing and drying machines.

Liveability is also ensured by sophisticated air-conditioning plants and fresh water generators.

High safety standards, environmental concern and personnel protection: these are the main features of the ships of the Italian Navy, in an ever-increasing commitment not only to national defence at sea and from the sea, but also to community requirements and crews' well-being.
