Zelenodolsk Shipyard to deliver this year Project 21631 22160 21980 warships to Russian Navy


According to information released by the Russian Press Agency TASS on June 15, 2021, Zelenodolsk Shipyard of Ak Bars Corporation plans to hand over eight military and civilian ships to the customers this year, CEO of the corporation Renat Mistakhov told TASS.

Zelenodolsk Shipyard is one of the biggest shipbuilding enterprises in Russia. It has built over 1.5 thousand sea and river vessels, including close to 600 warships.

“This year we plan to commission eight ships of various displacement. Some of them are undergoing acceptance trials and others are in factory trials. We have to hand over the ships from August to November,” he said. The vessels include Buyan-M-class corvettes of projects 21631 and 22160, Grachonok-class countersubversion boats of project 21980, and others, he added.

The Project 21631 also called Buyan-M is a class of corvette developed by the Zelenodolsk Design Bureau for the Russian Navy. The ship is primarily designed for operations within littoral zones to protect Russia's vast coastal areas.

The Buyan-M corvette is armed with one 100 mm A-190-01 naval gun, two 30 mm AK-630-M2 CIWS (Close-In Weapon System), one Pantsir-M CIWS (Stavropol) air defense missile system, height UKSK VLS (Vertical Launching System) cells for Kalibr or Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles, eight Komar surface-to-air missiles, one DP-65 anti-saboteur grenade launcher and two 14.5 mm KPV type anti-aircraft four-barrel machine guns.

Project 22160 is a series of large patrol ships constructed for the Russian Navy. Currently, four ships are in service with the Russian Navy and two are under construction. The ship was developed based on a modular design permitting such ships to carry significantly upgraded armaments tailored to different missions. The containers were envisaged to carry various weapons including sonars and torpedoes or anti-ship and cruise missiles.

The Project 21980 Grachonok-class is a series of anti-saboteur and large guard boats that were built for the Russian Navy. the ship is designed to combat sabotage and terrorist forces and means in the waters off bases and near the approaches to them, as well as to assist the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in solving the problems of preservation and protection of the state border of Russia.
