The submarine was originally expected to be back in service in 2017, then in 2019, and in 2022. The K-132 Irkutsk is an Oscar-class submarine in the Russian Navy.
The Irkutsk (originally K-132) was built by the Sevmash Shipyard and floated in late December 1987. It came into service a year later. It was given its current name in 1993. In 2019, Zvezda Shipyard in the Far East began to overhaul the sub.
The Oscar class, Soviet designations Project 949 Granit and Project 949A Antey, (NATO reporting names Oscar I and Oscar II respectively), are a series of nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines designed in the Soviet Union for the Soviet Navy.
They are currently in service with the Russian Navy with some of the vessels planned to be modernized as Project 949AM, to extend their service life and increase combat capabilities.
The Project 949A nuclear-powered submarine has a length of 155 meters, a displacement of 24,000 tons, a depth of submersion of 600 meters, and an underwater speed of 32 knots. Its crew totals 107.
The Project 949A nuclear-powered submarine is armed with six torpedo tubes and 24 launchers to fire Granit cruise missiles with a range of about 500 kilometers (311 miles).
