Philippines sends BRP Antonio Luna frigate for US Navy's RIMPAC exercise


According to a tweet published by the Armed Forces of the Philippines on June 9, 2022, Philippine Navy’s guided-missile Frigate, BRP Antonio Luna (FF151) is on its way to participate in the US-led Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise in Hawaii.

BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) is the second ship of the Jose Rizal-class of guided-missile frigates in service with the Philippine Navy. She is able to conduct multi-role operations such as anti-surface warfare (ASUW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), and limited anti-air warfare (AAW). She is one of the service's primary warships until the introduction of new and more powerful contemporaries.

The Jose Rizal class frigate has a length of 107 m (351 ft 1 in), a beam of 13.8 m (45 ft 3 in), and a draft of 3.65 m (12 ft 0 in). She has a displacement of 2,600 tons.

The ship can reach a top speed of 25 knots (46 km/h) with a maximum cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles (8,300 km). She has a complement of 110 people and has an endurance of 30 days.

She is powered by Combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) propulsion system that includes four MTU-STX 12V1163-TB93 12-cylinder diesel engines and up to three diesel generators.

The BRP Antonio Luna is fitted with Hensoldt TRS-3D Baseline D multi-mode phased array C-band search radar, Kelvin Hughes SharpEye I-band & E/F-band navigation radars, and Selex ES NA-25X fire control radar.

The Electro-Optical Tracking System of the ship includes Safran PASEO NS. Electronic warfare equipment and decoys include the Elbit Systems Elisra NS9300A and two Terma C-Guard DL-6T decoy launchers.

The BRP Antonio Luna is armed with one OTO Melara 76 mm Super Rapid naval gun, one ASELSAN SMASH 30mm automatic cannon, four S&T Motiv K6 .50cal (12.7mm) machine guns, one CIWS, four LIGNex1 SSM-700K C-Star anti-ship missile on twin canisters, two SEA triple torpedo tubes for K745 Blue Shark torpedo, two MBDA Mistral Simbad-RC twin launchers and 8-cell VLS.
