According to the press office, the sub dived to a depth of 190 m. The diving was supported by warships and the SS-750 rescue vessel of the Baltic Fleet.

New equipment designed for the Russian Navy is regularly tested at Baltic Fleet sea ranges, the press office said.

The Ufa is a third-generation Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine. Submarines of the type are among the most noiseless in the world. The Project 636.3 sub has a submerged speed of up to 20 knots, a depth of submergence of 300 m, a cruising capacity of 45 days. It has a 52-strong crew and its underwater displacement is about 4,000 tons. The sub is armed with Kalibr-PL (SS-N-27 Sizzler) missiles.

The boat's hull is double, with 6 watertight compartments. The Project 636.1 boats are equipped with a state-of-the-art inertial navigation system with long-term storage of parameters without correction, which ensures the delivery of necessary information to the missile system in the underwater position. Thus the increased stealth in the process of fulfillment of combat missions is provided.

The modernized submarines of the project 636.3 surpass the previous project with power of diesel generators, speed of a full underwater passage, range in underwater diesel operation mode (UUV); they have much lower level of underwater noise.

The Project 636.3 boats have an optimal combination of target detection range and acoustic stealth; they are equipped with an automated information and control system and a modern inertial navigation system, which provides the best submarine performance among similar boats; according to designers, these boats, due to their low noise level, can provide guaranteed preemptive detection and the ability to attack enemy ships from long range with anti-ship cruise missiles.
