India launches 2nd Anti Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft Androth


According to information published by the Indian MoD on March 21, 2023, ‘Androth’, the second ship of ASW Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) launched by Smt Shashi Tripathi, President, NWWA (Western Region).

The Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft have a displacement of 900 tons, a length of 77.6 metres (255 ft), a beam of 10.5 metres (34 ft), and a draught of 2.7 metres (8.9 ft).

They are powered by water-jet propulsion and can achieve a speed of 25 knots (46 km/h). She has a range of 1,800 nautical miles (3,300 km) at 14 knots (26 km/h) and a complement of 57 (7 officers + 50 sailors).

The ASW SWC are equipped with an ASW Combat Suite (presumably the DRDO-developed IAC MOD 'C' combat suite), a Hull-Mounted Sonar (HMS), and a Low-Frequency Variable Depth Sonar (LFVDS).

They also have a Fire Control System (FCS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), an Automatic Power Management System (APMS), and a Battle Damage Control System (BDCS).

The ASW SWC's armament include 1 RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launcher, 6 Lightweight ASW Torpedoes (presumably the Advanced Lightweight Torpedo (ALWT)), and anti-submarine mines launched from mine-laying rails. They are also equipped with 1 CRN-91 30mm naval gun and 2 OFT 12.7 mm M2 Stabilized Remote Controlled Guns.
