These ships were designed to be highly maneuverable, with three Kamewa controllable pitch propellers.

The ships have a normal displacement of 420 tons, with a full load displacement of 450 tons. They have a length of 60.4 meters, a beam of 8.8 meters, and a draft of 2.0 meters. The class has a crew complement of 49 sailors and was designed for a variety of missions, including patrol, escort, and anti-submarine warfare.
