Large French Naval Industry Presence Expected at PACIFIC 2017 Exhibition in Sydney

From the 3rd to 5th of October 2017, more than twenty companies will be exhibiting at the largest French pavilion since the creation of the PACIFIC exhibition in Australia, at the International Convention Center in Sydney.

GICAN PACIFIC 2017 1PACIFIC 2017 will see the largest French naval industry presence ever.

“This strong presence is a good illustration of the ambition for strategic partnership that has existed between France and Australia since 2012, ratified in the naval domain on April 26th 2016, when the French proposal for the replacement of 12 Collins submarines was selected. A contract that will link our countries for the next fifty years"; explains Hervé GUILLOU, President of the GICAN. "Since the first visit of a French President to Australia in November 2014, and now the Australian Prime Minister’s visit to France in June 2017, our two countries have clearly demonstrated their joint determination to expand their bilateral, diplomatic, military, scientific and industrial cooperation”.

Drawing on this favourable context and in particular the 12 submarine programme which opens a new phase of reinforced cooperation between France and Australia, the French Pavilion, coordinated by the GICAN (French Marine Industry Association) will enable French businesses to present the full value chain: high-tech products and services that meet the needs of the Australian navy, as well as all the countries involved in the safety of the Asia-Pacific region.

An innovative French naval offer to assist our partners in tackling the sovereignty challenges in the maritime zones of today and the future! The naval industry is on the move!

French Marine Industry Association
The GICAN is a professional French trade association affiliating more than 180 industrials in the naval and maritime sector. It brings together major contractors, system and equipment providers, as well as SMEs and MMCs that contribute to the design, construction, maintenance and implementation of military vessels, medium and large tonnage trade vessels and specialised vessels. It also plays an important role in the emergence of Marine Renewable Energies.
The GICAN’s ambition is to promote the development of the French maritime industry, within the context of global economic “maritimisation”. This will allow the GICAN to play a leading role in promoting, securing and protecting maritime, air-sea, submarine and coastal areas.

In 2016, representatives of 64 of the one hundred countries possessing a navy accepted the French government’s invitation to Euronaval. No other international event exists that is entirely devoted to the naval defence market. The next edition of Euronaval will be headed by Hervé GUILLOU, CEO of NAVAL GROUP and President of the GICAN, responsible for organising the exhibition for the last 50 years.
