The latest Russian Navy frigate, the Admiral Gorshkov (lead ship of Project 22350), has practiced launching cruise missiles against coastal and sea targets as part of its trials, Northern Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga said on Thursday.
The first ship of the new Russian Navy frigate project 22350 class "Admiral Gorshkov" sailing out for its first sea trials in November 2014.

"The launches of various cruise missiles were conducted as part of the final stages of the ship’s armament and equipment state trials," the spokesman said.

According to Serga, the ship’s crew has already tested the cold start of the shipborne missile system and practiced launching various cruise missiles against coastal and simple and complex sea targets. The frigate will call at the Northern Fleet’s Belomorsk naval base due to an upcoming storm. When the weather is fine, the frigate will continue the state trials of its armament and equipment in the White Sea, the spokesman added.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov is armed with two 3S-14 vertical launchers with eight missiles each of the Kalibr system. The missile load comprises 3M-14 (NATO reporting name: SS-N-30) missiles to attack ground targets and 3M-54 (SS-N-27) anti-ship missiles.

The Project 22350 frigate is designed to fight surface warships and submarines in the ocean and at sea and repel air attacks both independently and within a formation. The Project 22350 frigate is flush-decked and has three-island superstructures, a tower mast and a steel tube. The ship has a lower radar signature, which makes it virtually invisible for the enemy’s radars. The Project 22350 frigate has a displacement of about 4,550 tons and a length of 135 meters. The capacity of its diesel-gas-turbine power plant is 65,000 hp.

The ship is armed with the new A-192 130mm artillery gun and anti-ship, antisubmarine and air defense missile systems, including the Kalibr and Redut-Poliment. The ship is capable of carrying the Kamov Ka-27 (NATO reporting name: Helix) helicopter or its versions.
