According to information published by the Japanese MoD on March 27, 2023, JS Ise conducted a bilateral exercise with the USS Nimitz CSG from the Pacific Ocean to the East China Sea.

JS Ise has a displacement of 13,950 long tons (14,170 t) in standard configuration and 19,000 long tons (19,000 t) when fully loaded. It has a length of 197 meters (646 ft 4 in) and a beam of 33 meters (108 ft 3 in).
The ship is powered by COGAG (combined gas and gas) propulsion, with two shafts providing a total output of 100,000 hp (75,000 kW). It has a top speed of more than 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).
The ship is equipped with advanced sensor and processing systems, including the ATECS (advanced technology command system), OYQ-10 advanced combat direction system, FCS-3 AAW system, OQQ-21 ASW system, NOLQ-3C EW system, and OPS-20C surface search radar.
In terms of armament, the ship has 16 cells of Mk 41 VLS (vertical launching system) with 16 ESSM (Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles), 12 RUM-139 VL ASROC (Anti-Submarine ROCket) missiles, two 20 mm Phalanx CIWS (Close-In Weapon Systems), two triple 324 mm torpedo tubes, and 12.7 mm MG (machine guns).
The ship can carry 3 SH-60K helicopters and 1 MCH-101 helicopter, with a maximum of 18 V/STOL (vertical/short takeoff and landing) aircraft. It has a flight deck and enclosed hangar for aviation operations.
