The FREMM EVO project represents an advanced phase in the evolution of the FREMM frigates, incorporating the latest technological innovations to enhance operational and technical standards.
Following the sale of two units to Egypt, the program has been updated to include the delivery schedule extension to 2040, ensuring logistic support and incorporating additional advancements to address emerging threats and scenarios.
The primary focus is on modernizing combat and platform systems to maintain technological superiority and operational readiness. This includes upgrading radar sensors, electronic warfare capabilities, missile systems, and logistical support to ensure high availability and reliability. The project emphasizes green technologies to improve the environmental footprint of the naval units.
FREMM frigates technical specifications
The FREMM frigates have a displacement of 6,700 tons and measure 144.6 meters (474.4 feet) in length, with a beam of 19.7 meters (64.6 feet) and a draught of 8.7 meters (28.5 feet).
Their top speed reaches 27 knots (50 km/h; 31 mph), with a more typical cruising speed of 15.6 knots (28.9 km/h; 18.0 mph). These vessels have a range of 6,800 nautical miles (12,600 km; 7,800 mi) when traveling at 15 knots (28 km/h; 17 mph) and can carry a crew of 199.
